Britain’s oldest and possibly the most famous wine merchant in the world, Berry Bros. & Rudd, has proved its illustrious 319-year history doesn’t stop it being bang up-to-date in its use of technology, when last month it selected OneDeploy to roll-out Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system on a large number of brand-new Microsoft Surface Pro 4 tablets in its Fine Wine department.
The wine and spirits merchant to the Royal Household since the reign of George III and holders of two Royal Warrants, decided it needed its Fine Wine team to have access to more versatile, powerful, and mobile devices. The updated system will ensure Berry Bros. & Rudd employees are able to work at speed when in the office and browse at speed while on the move, checking listings and pricing whilst with customers or suppliers – all using the same device over a highly secure corporate wireless network.
OneDeploy is a unique Windows deployment offering, which makes light work of remote Windows deployments across even the largest enterprise, legacy and new, hardware estates. OneDeploy deployed Windows 10 to all Berry Bros. & Rudd new Surface Pro 4 devices successfully in under three days including initial design and build configuration.
Berry Bros. & Rudd then handed over second line hardware and Windows-level support for these devices to OneDeploy sister company Centrality Limited. Centrality was the first to market in the UK with a comprehensive Surface as a Service offering in January.
Centrality offers a device-specific 12-, 24- or 36-month 100% subscription model on all hardware, bundled with guaranteed next business day replacement of damaged or malfunctioning devices, as well as options of first or second line help desk support around the clock for remote fixing.
Mike Davies, managing director, OneDeploy said: “I’m really pleased that, using OneDeploy, we were able to deploy a fully-configured and customised Windows 10 build to these new Surface Pro 4’s being used by staff in Berry Bros. & Rudd Fine Wine department so quickly and efficiently. It’s testament to the simplicity of the OneDeploy solution. That said, we could not have done it at this speed without the clear direction and purpose of the client who have been a pleasure to work with throughout.”
Simon Crozier, operations director, Centrality Ltd: “It’s great that our very first Surface as a Service client was none other than the wine merchants to the Queen - Berry Bros. & Rudd. We are offering them industry-leading support services to ensure a truly consumption-based user experience. We now look forward to helping them get the most from these cutting-edge ultra-book devices.”
“It’s great to be an early adopter of the Surface Pro 4 within Fine Wine - getting it into use here in just a few days using OneDeploy for the new Win10 deployments, alongside our chosen applications and drivers. But to do this project with no upfront cost whatsoever, while getting the benefit of a comprehensive help desk support and replacement guarantee package, all from Centrality’s new Surface as a Service offering, is frankly a dream come true.”
